The latest off the bench. This model is the 1/48 Classic airframes B-57B in Vietnam colours. It wasn't an easy model to complete, but the end result I'm happy with.

Canberra from Vietnam times. This model involved a lot of sanding, but in the end came up ok.

Quite an attractive colour scheme, one which should be modeled more I personally think

This is my latest model finished. It is the 1/48 Tamiya Skyraider A-1H. Build for a regular customer of mine. He has asked for it to not have any arms or weathering on it. I hope he likes it...

I quite like the attention to detail Tamiya has gone to. Where the panels are raised there are raised panels, a good example of this is the armour plating around the cockpit.

Labels:

Viewed from above you can see the Skyraider was really just a flying weapons platform.

The undersides of this massive aircraft. My customer asked that no weapons be placed on the stores, and that it wasn't weathered. I would have liked to load it up with stores, but the customer is always right...

Labels:

I think you will agree, this is a rather menacing aircraft.

Tamiya Skyraider Port side. I've used Gunze acrylics on this model. The flat coat used was Micro flat, which I painted 1 coat, waited till it dried, then another coat, which I've found has produced a more flat flat than usual.

This is the latest off my bench. It is the 1/48 Hasegawa P-51D.

1/48 Scale P-51D Mustang. This is a model of the one which flew with Breitling fighters in the 90's. Keith Skilling a New Zealand pilot has asked me to build models of aircraft he has flown.

Mustang Starboard side. This is the Hasegawa kit, it goes together pretty easily.

P-51 Viewed from above. This model took about 2 weeks to complete

The Mustang modeled is a restored one flown by Breitling fighters in the mid 90's. I have built this model for Keith Skilling who flew with them along side Ray and Mark Hanna

Undersides were all masked and spray painted. The only decals on this kit were the victorys and the stars and bars.

Hasegawa 1/48 F-8E Crusader. A really enjoyable build. This one took just under 3 weeks to complete.

Crusader F-8E

1/48 Hasegawa F-8E Crusader. This particular one was part of VF-191, based on USS Ticonderoga

Labels: ,

Quite a lot of decals on this aircraft, typical of Hasegawa's decal sheets, I personally think it looks quite good with them all on. Just another error while I think about it, the hook on the nose wheel only existed on the later model Crusaders, as usually, only found this out once it was too late...

Quite an attractive view. Just to note, The engine part sticking out shouldn't be, it should be flush with the back of the aircraft. One usually finds these things out after the model is finished...

Undersides F-8E kitset.

Under wing F-8 Crusader.

Seatbelts were built from wine bottle lid. Other than that, straight out the box

A nice bit of engine detail. SM.79

Trumpeter 1/48 Vigilante. This is an early model from Trumpeter, and isn't the best fitting model they have ever built. The wing has 32 parts alone, to get all of these lined up correctly is near on impossible, so lots of filling and sanding followed, but the end result is ok.

Trumpeter 1/48 Vigialnte RA-5C. I find this jet quite nice looking as far as jets go. The kitset on the other hand isn't the best. It is one of Trumpeters earlier models, and having built 5 trumpeter models now I can say they have got better as the years have gone by.

The undersides. The good thing about this model is there is a pod to be added all the way along the join underneath. The join along this part is terrible. I found this model to be quite a challenge, and something I wouldn't want to repeat.

Labels: ,

The decals on this model were horid. The stuck the moment they touched the paint which was didn't leave much margin for error. The other bad thing about these decals was

Italeri 1/48 MB326A, This model was built for my boss who flew this particular aircraft. Built straight from the box it fits well.

Italeri's 1/48 MB326A. The cockpit had the basic detail there, I haven't added much, I was rather happy with the clarity of the canopy.

This model was built from the box, except to say the numbers on the decals were changed to match that of the aircraft my boss flew. A very nice little kit to put together, however the shape is a little bit out. The main problems I can see are the shape of the nose, the way the aircraft sits and the tip tanks. However these are easily fixed.

Italeri 1/48 MB326A, This was called the Impala for the south african airforce. I have built this model for my boss who flew for SAAF when he lived in SA.

A rather imposing view of trumpeters 1/48 wellington III. The model was built straight from the box, it is really nicely detailed and easy to build.

Labels: , , ,

The decals on this model were a little bright for my liking, however the friend I was building it for quite like them, so they were left alone. This model took me 10 days, to build, a total of 18 hours. It goes together really easily, but still with a great result.

Labels:

As you can see, Trumpeter have put quite obvious geodetic construction on the wings. I guess if it was left out there would be comments saying so. I guess if you don't like it you can sand it off. This model was built straight out the box for a friend.

Labels: ,

Trumpeter have gone to the extreme with detailing. Inside both gun turrets is really well detailed.

Labels: ,

A nice detail Trumpeter has added. These engines take quite a bit of putting together, but as I'm sure you agree, well worth the effort
